Crane rotation speed?

Hi!

We have a crane/dolly being built by local engineering students as a semester assignment. They ask us about maximum rotation speed of the crane head. We don't know really. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi Jiri.............

You might get some usefull info here:

Pan & Tilt Rigs

The fastest (of those that bothered to list it - an awefull lot don't) was 210 degrees per second.

That's one serious whip pan.

Others I found were 90, 90, 45, 15 & 9 degress per second.

Personally, I'd say 120 degrees per second would be as fast as you'd ever realistically want to go, that's a full circle in 3 seconds, enough to make you throw up your breakfast.

Hello Jiri,

I would not mind the speed this much as in 120 degrees a second is already fast enough for most shots.

I would be more worried of the fast starts and stops of both the rotation as well as the vertical movement.
an acceleration and deceleration can be about 6 m/s 2....

Good Luck,
