a few questions about cranes from a newbie

I know nothing about cranes or jibs and have never used one. I'm really looking to invest in one for my upcoming senior film for college. Im using my Canon 60D and my dad's Canon 7D.

That being said, what would be a good crane for a beginner to use for a DSLR?

Also I was wondering how do you monitor your footage when youre using a crane?
