LS300 skin tones

Greetings. I'm new to this forum. I recently sold my Canon C100MK1 and purchased a LS300. The LS300 has the latest firmware upgrade. I often will be using this camera to shoot short ENG style interviews. I will be recording in HD to an external Ninja Blade via HDMI in ProRes 422 and internally in the camera in 50Mb 422 .mov. The internal recording will be a backup to the Ninja Blade. The person conducting the interviews will be editing using FCPX. He prefers I not use J-Log. What camera WDR and Color Matrix settings would you recommend to get the most natural looking skin tones? I will be shooting outdoors in sunlight and indoors. I have a variable color temp LED light mounted on the camera. See below.

There is no good reason to use anything but J-Log1 on the LS300 when shooting footage intended for post production grading. The only scenerio where I'd consider an ITU709 profile is for ENG footage intended for use straight out of the camera.

I almost never use J-log (however today I might). Until you get used to the characteristics of the lenses you have on the camera (different lenses create different color casts), you should stick with the out of the box settings for ENG style. There is enough latitude, especially with ProRes recording, for your editor to work with if the white balance is good overall.

Re: LS300 skin tones

I've been using the Cinema Gamma with Master Gamma set to +3, Standard Matrix(ITU709), and Detail set to -7. I also set the Knee to 90ire, and if the shadows are harsh, I'll use the Black Toe Stretch. Also, I have the Master Black at 0.

The Cine Gamma provides better hi-light handling, and setting the Master Gamma to +3 brightens the Mids.
