JVC entering with hd Everio

At this point it is a guess on what codec it will use. I don't know if JVC has officially joined the AVCHD group yet. I think it is just Sony/Pana right now. It could just be a tapeless HDV varient/ HDVD or whatever they will call it. My gut tells me it will be some form of Mpeg4 like AVCHD or else they could have had it on the market by now.

I'm keeping my eyes on this unit. Let's hope it doesn't implement AVCHD and records an MPEG-2 type stream (ts??) or other codec that can be transcoded easily to HDV. Keeping my fingers crossed for a sub $2500 price.

It obviously not going to use AVCHD as the compression and I don’t think JVC will use any form of MPEG4 although I would have preferred AVC/H.264 but I think JVC will definitely use MPEG2 no matter what.
To be aggressive, I suspect the price to be in the 1500 dollar range.

Just for clarity MPEG-4 AVC = (H.264). What makes it so obvious to you Paulo, that they will use mpeg2?

...probably because they'd likely state that it would be using one of those codecs if it actually did indeed use them- the omission could signal the more "normal" mpeg-2 compression.

I never said it was different. I just would have preferred that they use the AVC version of MP4. As for the second part of you question, it’s just an educated guess which is why I used “I think” instead of “I know” I figured if they were going to use MP4 as the compression then they would have bought the rights to use AVCHD.

OK, I do admit I should have used better words.

Come to think of it, it would have been a smart move to use Windows Media HD as the compression. I wonder if any company will take that advice.

I'm not sure why Quicktime or WMV is not mentioned. Must be price.

I suspect that the recording format with be 720P30 (or 25 in PAL countries) to keep in line with JVC's prior offerings. Their early HD-10 and subsequent Pro-100 camcorder line is based on 720P, so I would be surprised to see them go 1080.

720p sign me up! I hate 1080i (1080p is another thing!!!)
