What Is The Image Quality Difference Between The Two JVC HD Cams?

I am getting very close to buying either the JVC GR-HD1, or the "pro" version JY-HD10U. Is there actually any difference in video quality between what the two cameras record?

I have heard internet rumors that the "consumer" version GR-HD1 has the sharpening filters turned up so high that it ruins the image, and there is no way to adjust it. Aparently, JVC didn't add any sharpening at all to it's more expensive sibling. I find that a little hard to believe......but then again....has anyone compared the two cams? Is this true?
Thanks.

I don't own any of these cams, but if you check the previous post you'll see that what you've heard is relatively true. People have even taken back their HD1 for the HD10.

I've been finding the HD1 all over the internet for as low as $2399. but the HD10U seems to be at least a thousand dollars more - if you can find it at all. Ouch! That seems like an incredible amount of $ difference for having the sharpening simply turned down in the software. The audio inputs won't make much of a difference to me, because for critical recording I use DAT anyway.

I actually found a dealer in town today (Milwaukee, WI) , and he said he going to ask his JVC rep what the actual video difference is between the two. I should find out his answer tonight. It would be interesting to actually hear an honest answer from the manufacturer that they deliberatly tuned the quality of the cheaper cam downward, just to increase sales of the more expensive model.

As a caveat, what would happen if I used something like a Tiffen black Pro-Mist 3 on the HD1 to soften it's image a bit? Do you think that would make up the difference?
Thanks

It would be great to have someone compare the two.

JVC in a Widescreen interview defended their extra edge enhancement as being necessary because for typical viewers it adds apparent sharpness and they like the pix better.

The intereviewer said that was BS.

But, JVC might be correct when HDV is viewed on low-cost HDTVs.
