GR-PD1, DVX 100's greatest competitor?

I think the GR-PD1 MAYBE the DVX 100’s greatest competition. Think about it, the GR-PD1 will have TRUE 16:9, TRUE Progressive, 1.18 million pixels, and 25p. The DVX 100 might beat the GR-PD1 out in latitude, image control, and post manipulation, though. And if the GR-PD1 has remote focus control, that would be another advantage over the DVX 100 (not sure if JVC cams have this ability.)

It will probably have that crappy edge enhancement.

25p is not 24p, which is the DVX100's biggest advantage. Slowing down the footage 4% does make a difference, and if I had to choose between really good 3 CCD 24p and 1 CCD 25p with better resolution but poorer picture quality oerall, I'd choose the first.

Now if the JVC had 24p, then all other things being equal I might choose it. If it had 3 CCDs, it would be just about perfect.

Peter, do you really do that much transfer to film? If that is the case I can't see how you could turn down that resolution and 16x9 aspect ratio. The difference between the two visually on the big screen would be large.

Why would you buy a 25p camera for anything other than transfer to film? If you want to change it to NTSC 60i, you still have to slow down the footage by 5% to do 3:2 pulldown.

I could see the 30p version of the JVC being more worthwhile than the 25p version - at least with the 30p one you could show it on NTSC- and HD-DVDs easily. 30p is actualy the ideal framerate for DVDs.

PS - Does Canada use PAL or NTSC?
