Just though somebody might like to know. I just got a new one for 464, so this seems like it might be a good bargin.

In some cases it may be better to get a refurb than new if it as all the fixes done. I must say its very tempting.

What can you do with a DVHS machine. Can you record
HD content off of a brodacast. And what tape does it
use and how much does it cost ?

The machine uses a VHS size tape, but special type of tape for digital recording. (DVHS tape) You can record regular definition broadcast TV in digital mpeg2 format on these tapes. You can also record HDTV (including 1080i) on these tapes if you have a HD receiver with fire wire output to plug into the firewire port of the JVC deck. You can record HD video from the HD1 or HD10 onto DVHS tapes with the firewire port. And, finally, you can watch Dtheater tapes, which are HD 1080i on your HDTV, although there are a limited number of these to date, and they are about 10-j15 bucks more than a DVD of the same movie.

You can also record in standard VHS and super VHS mode on this deck with a regular VHS tape, etc.

Has all the functions of a high end superVHS recorder. Can even control a cable box via IR.

A DVHS tape cost about 7.99 for a 5 hour tape, thats buying online from ecost.

Thanks for the info.

I would use this DVHS recorder to grab some HD broadcast
footage for my motion graphics reel. But once I recorded
the 1080i footage. Could I get it into my computer
through the firewire..and then I guess it records in the
same MPEG-2T as the camera. That correct.
