Hi all,
I put this together last night with Vegas and encode it for WMP9 I have the quality level set lower to create a smaller file size (about 45 Mb/min) so its not as good as a native mpeg2 but IMO acceptable. I may be able to reduce the file size further by adjusting some of the encoder settings. To play this file you should have at least a 2.4 Ghz P4 and WMP9

Right Click and Select Save Target As

Note: I am still not that comfortable with the cameras manual settings so be kind. I going out later today to shoot more footage and experiment with some of the suggestions posted here.

That's some great demo!

Played flawlessly on my P4 2.4Ghz 1G memory PC.

By the way, WMP9 lets you have some effortless 5.1 Surround sound encoded as well. I tried it in Premiere Pro -> Adobe Media Encoder -> Windows Media Player 9.

It then plays back on PC with all 6 channels sounding true to the PPro project.

Now if only set-top boxes (like D-VHS or DVD players) natively decoded WMP9 media, we'd have an easy way to distrubute our HD, Surround sound movies.

That was really good. Thanks Mike for posting. Nice to see something from the HD1 for a change. I still don't like the oversharpened edges - almost makes it look interlaced, but this is worlds better than any DV cam. The true 16/9 is nice too :)

I didn't notice any blocking in the areas of solid red color. Also, did you use any filters on the cam?

Thanks Kevin! I did use a polarizer for most of the shots. BTW I have uploaded a new version with a few tips from people in the Vegas forum.

Yeah but one toy is a hair more expensive than the other. lol For the price of a Z06 he could have scored himself a Hollywood Panavision cinema camera, and a Ford Escort. I think he made the right decision. Have any of you seen his home theater set-up?! Man I'm in the wrong business, I gotta get a job doing what he's doing. ;)

Actually I bought the car used on Ebay this spring, it's a 2001 with 20K miles. I paid less for it than a new Ford Explorer.

One thing I noticed with cutting HD footage is you see every flaw. If you look closely at the shot of the Z06 emblem you see very pronounce orange peel in he paint. (Bad GM) also you see a reflection of a lawn chair in the same shot. Likewise on the shot of the caliper you see chipped paint on the caliper and tar in the wheel well. I am sure there are many more defects such as these I just haven't noticed them. Composing HD shots can be very difficult and tedious to get it right.

Wow orang peel in the paint. I mean it's been present in every car I've owned but I've only owned Hyundai, Toyota, Honda, and Mazdas. I thought higher-end cars would get a better paint job especially the Z06.
Man you must do alot of shopping on E-bay jeez! Alot of your audio equipment is from there as well. We do use a similar sub I'm using a Velodyn as well (forget the model #). I'm using it as an additional sub to my Bose Lifestyle 12 setup. So it's considerably less sophisticated than your setup...though this is all in my bedroom. I'm in my mid 20's and am still at home.

Back on topic, regarding HD footage and enhancing flaws- I own a Panasonic DVX100 and a Canon GL-1 and they both would display the same flaws if shooting macro like that. You have to understand your not shooting in a studio like a car commercial so the lawnchair in the reflection, etc are givens. Though things like that can be reduced if not eliminated if you shot in a more remote location. I know when I used to take pics of my last car (http://www.mazdamp3.com/vbb230/_hand...lueP5/kit1.jpg) I used to take it to the parking lot of the local highschool when it was empty. I'd try and locate myself so my reflection would be masked by the tire (like the linked photo). It really all depends on how ambitous you want to get with it. I'm sure this was more of a fun project rather than something your trying for complete perfection.

Lastly I wouldn't sweat the small imperfections. I was like that with my current car when I first got it (and it's only an 03 Mazda P5 http://www.mazdamp3.com/vbb230/_hand...lueP5/aap5.jpg). The only way to keep your car perfect is garage kept and almost never driven. Daily driven? ....forget about it. Besides I recently saw a black Z06 in a local Chevy dealer and it had paint swirls all over with only 5 miles on the odo!

Oh and speaking of Ebay I was just about to put a few items up. Figured I'd run them by you first to see if your interested.

A JL Audio 500/1 mono-block amp, JL 12 W6 V2 sub, and 5 farad Alumapro capacitor. Let me know if your interested- I had a 4k audio install from Tweeter but had to pull half of it due to the wedding videography business taking off. I simply can't deal with not having a trunk- granted I could still stash my cameras etc back there but not next to the 30lb magnet of the W6v2. I had it professionally installed and removed. All in perfect condition. Drop me a line if your interested.

By the way, have you noticed any bothersome edge sharpening?

Played back fine on my Athlon 2200+, w/512mgs ram- however the controls were very laggy. For example when I clicked the x to close the media player it took over 10 seconds before it actually closed.

I think the WM9 drivers, XP version, and video card are quite important for those issues.
My laptop 2.4 IVm with 512 RAM but a NVidia high end card with XP Media Edition, it is not jerky at all and no lag.
A desktop with 2.0 IV with 1G RAM and 9700 RadeonPRO does well with slight lag on controls.

My video card is Matrox 32 MB RAM, AGP2X. I know that Microsoft says the requirement is 128 MB RAM and AGP8X for "optimal playback" of 1080p.

You might be due for an upgrade on that vid card Dave. If you like Matrox and are into video and are rich, get a Parhelia hands down. Otherwise I would recommend an ATi 8500 9000/9100/9200 based on their price, performance and quality. If you are into gaming or have the moola you can go even higher, but as Jose points out it's CPU all the way. His desktop with 2-3x faster video card and double the ram can't equal the loss of 400+mhz from his laptop.

Besides my big video editing computer, I have a Toshiba laptop with a Celeron 2 Ghz processor, Win XP and 512 ram. It has a 15 inch screen running 1024 by 768. Your video runs perfect on it in fullscreen, with no lag whatsoever, even with my WiFi Internet running with a few other apps in the background. So do all the other raw HD10 clips I downloaded.

I bought this notebook for $850 bucks! What gives with the performance - did I just get a lucky one or what? :)
