Battery dead on HD10u already - lots of battery talk here.

Hi all, I did a search on here for "battery" issues with the HD10u and nothing came up.

Anyone else have a dead battery from their HD10u already? I bought my camera less than a year ago, so I don't know why its dead. Usually, all my other batteries lasted 2-3 years (albeit less juice as time went on).

My battery is totally dead, so I need to get another one. Anyone know where I can buy a couple batteries for cheap?

Does anyone know anything about these "non-OEM" batteries?? They're cheap, so I figure buying 3-4 batteries at the same cost of 1 is great!

Also, anyone have any special tips for making batteries last longer? I know you drain them every so often..

Thanks!

YIKES! That's a cheap battery!!

Christopher C. Murphy May 20th, 2004 04:33 PM

No kidding!

Should I buy one? It's weird, but there are no discussions on this site regarding batteries.

Isn't that weird? I did searches for battery and batteries...almost nothing.

As long as they don't charge something silly for S&H why not buy one, try it out, and if it's a good battery, buy more.

Sometimes I really wonder about why some things are so expensive (like body parts for Mercedes Benz's) when they are such simple things.

I'm going to check it out, and if the S&H isn't as much as the battery, I'll certainly risk $15 or $20 on one.

You're right, I'm buying one of the "8hr" batteries now..

We'll see, I'll post after I get the battery and see if it works.

We bought two of the B&H batteries marked
as:

for JVC BN-B428

for about $ 30 each and have had very good results this last 2 months using it with the rented JVC HD-10.

Hey Ed,

I looked for "BN-B428" at B&H, not found.

Did you spell it right?

Do a search, someone has better rating selling same (actually higher capacity at 3500ma) but cheaper ($13) battery, I bought one, very good.

For 3500ma battery at $13, I have no complain if it lasts only 1 year...good enough.

Cheap batteries

Those are cheap batteries.

I purchased a 2700mah LI-ION for $27 through Sterlingtek and it has been working fine for two months now.

They have a good rating in pricegrabber.

I'd suggest calling JVC about those batteries. Might be a camera problem! Plus, they'll fix the canned audio problems, too!

Heath! Are you serious? Can you post a new thread with all the details on how to get our audio fixed? Names, numbers, where to go etc?

I've been wondering about the audio fix.

Murph,

I already have done so, over a week ago. All you have to do is call JVC's tech support.

Update, I am stupid.

I posted a couple weeks ago that my battery was dead. Guess what? It was, but it's because my charger wasn't charging it!

NOTE: Just incase people don't know - you have to pull the cord that attaches to the camera OUT of the charger. If you don't the little green light won't flash....and no charging will occur.

It made me think the battery was dead, but apparently I was the "brain dead" one!

That's pretty funny. That EXACT thing happened to me. After downloading a bunch of footage to my computer, I put the battery on the charger without disconnecting that little cord. It took me a while to figure out why all 3 batteries were dead after I had charged them!

Battery life reader on camera?

I bet JVC has gotten lots of battery orders by pulling that trick huh?

By the way, I got my new 3500mAh battery today. Does anyone know how to tell the hours:minutes left on a battery? The HD10u has only the 3 bars...I'm curious to know right now how much time I have left.

The Pd-150 has an exact time read out that is really nice....I can't find anything about it on the HD10u.

Thanks!
