questions

Can anyone answer these questions?

can you view the video live from the camera on a laptop via fire wire?

Can this Mpeg2 video be recorded in real time onto a hard disk?

How good is the image stabilizer say compared to that of the Cannon GL2?

Your answers:

Yes, you can view the video in SD via firewire or via the S-Video out. For some reason while recording in HD and viewing the S-Video output on a monitor, the image is stretched from 16:9 to 4:3 aspect ratio.

You can't record the MPG2 TS onto a hard disk while recording.

The OIS is pretty good but not great. Use a tripod or monopod whenever possible with this camera.

I've used the stabilizer in all modes, esp. DV for some little videos I've done (and not to promote myself, but the interview with me on a putt putt golf course for the documentary of my film was shot in DV on the HD10), and I have to say it's kinda subpar.

Great thanks for the help,

We are using GL2 cameras to film various terrains (mostly Alpine) remotely from the hood of a car. These are then rendered into Mpeg4 & integrated into some software. At the moment we use a laptop to see if anything unwanted has landed on the lens & to record the film onto external hard disks but I'm starting to wonder if the increased pixel resolution of the JVC cams would give us better quality Mpeg4 at 500kb/s (our limit).

So is the JVC the best option for Mpeg4 video that will be shown only on a PC?

&

If recording 'HD' Mpeg2 (to tape) can we use the laptop as a monitor?

Phil
