Look of HDV upconverted: 720p to 1080i?

Anyone do a good upconvert from 720p to 1080i with the HD10, whether in editing, or after the 720p cut is done?

how does it look?

Thanks,

heath

Looks fine!!! If you're actually asking for some feedback on whether the 1080i upconvert in a HD capable NLE gives a superior image to the 720p native.....that's a different story.

No I was just curious if I edit in 720p, but make my final output 1080i will be okay.

The main reason I've avoided converting my edited 720p footage to 1080i is the inability of the vast majority of software players to display 1080 of any flavour. The first 720p to 1080i conversion I did was to WMV9 to test the viability of the format & player. It worked fine, but as you know not everyone seems to be able to get WMP9 to work with HD.

The latest version of Intervideo WinDVD (V6) supposedly supports HD, so I converted some short clips to 1080i MPEG2, but the results indicate that any DVD based player software just doesn't cut the grade yet with anything that's above 1280 x 720 rez. and interlaced.

I'm just mentioning this so you're aware that if you do the conversion, you may need to search out a player that will be able to correctly display the converted footage.....

The most compelling reason for checking the 1080i conversion from my view-point, was to verify that broadcast level files that wouldn't require any further conversion or editing could indeed be made from the HD10s' 720p footage. The less someone else mucks around with what I've created, the better IMO....
