Eh? - what's this about "pseudo HDV" ?

Good to see the two new forum topics added to the HDV roster.

But ... I don''t understand this forum's new subheading that reads: "All about these single-CCD pseudo-HDV camcorders from JVC".

My understanding is that there's an HDV1 spec and an HDV2 spec - and that the HD1 and HD10 meet the former of these.

What's "pseudo" about these cameras???

Where can I find that?

Heath,

Click on the link at the top of this page that says "High Definition HDV:The Next Wave".

On the page that comes up you'll see the 4 sub-fora, each with a subtitle....

There isn't an "HDV2" spec. There is an official "HDV" only, and some products will probably push the limits. Go read over at the Cow site about how Mullen "heard" someone say "HDV2", so he's using the term now. Some intern probably said it at Sony, so somehow it's become a term we're hearing now.

We haven't even begun to get products for HDV, and I'm sure the manufactuers don't want to confuse us with anything else other than the official term "HDV".

Ya, can you get the Pseduo forum namer to fix that.

Chris Hurd September 12th, 2004 03:04 PM

That's my fault. I called 'em "pseudo" since they came out before the HDV consortium was announced. I'll change it up later this eve.

Christopher C. Murphy September 12th, 2004 03:55 PM

Somebody stole my patty!!!

Chris Hurd September 12th, 2004 06:16 PM

I did, Murph. Send me an email.

Graham Hickling September 12th, 2004 06:30 PM

My bad - I meant HD1 and HD2, not HDV1 and HDV2.

As David and Frederick have just posted on the editing forum:

Currently, the following naming is defined in the “HDV Format”:
“HD1 mode” to specify 720p/480p/576p recording
"HD2 mode” to specify the 1080i recording

HDV2 was a misspelling of one the spec's two formats (HD1 and HD2).

Chris Hurd September 13th, 2004 04:22 AM

Okay, I've changed "All about these single-CCD pseudo-HDV camcorders from JVC" to "All about the original single-CCD HDV camcorders from JVC." If somebody has a better suggestion, just let me know.

Chris,

To be honest, I never noticed it before! Sounds good to me!

Since this thread is about correcting forum titles, I suppose this fits:

This forum area is called "JVC GR-HD1U / GY-HD10U."

The HD10's proper model designation is JY-HD10U.

It's not a big deal, of course, but it might as well be corrected.

Thanks!

I never noticed that...
