FCP to BR-HD50 for tape archival

I'm reading and reading in the manuals of FCP6 but I'm not getting it done. BR-HD50 too. I'm connected via firewire - HD50/G5. No special video card. Seems like I need to get about eight settings right, and I can only count to six. Can somebody please clue me in to at least the direction of the answer?

Thanks
