Doc shot on HD200

It's been a while since I've been on these forums, and I wanted to re-introduce myself. I am a former XL1 owner (althougth I still have one) and am now a HD200 owner. We have been using the 200 on a number of projects, including commercials, documentaries and a pilot for a travel show. We are currently editing a doc about the snake charmers of India and I wanted to share a clip with all of you.

or, if you prefer:

The video quality is better if you use the first link. The project was shot 720p at 30fps. I am offlining a SD downconvert on an Avid Xpress Pro system (digitizing difficulties between JVC and Avid require this at this point) while wee search for finishing funds.

I'd love to hear your comments and critiques.

Interesting. I would be tempted to shoot the snake action in 60p in order to get some real good slo mo fang action.

Avid Liquid is a more natural fit w/ this camera than the other avid editors involving your digitizing problems.

Looks very professional, what lens did you use (or lens adapters)?

Thanks. I just used the stock 16x lens. And I should point out that my original post was in error. We shot this with the HD100, not the 200. We didn't get the 200 until after we lost the 100 in an auto accident.

Hey William,

We are over in PAL land and have the same problems with AVID express pro and media composser. However we shot a tvc in 720p and manages to cut on the avid. We were lucky enough to capture to a firestore in the .m2v format as well as tape.

With the .m2v format we encoded with Procoder 3 to a quicktime using the DNxHD codec.
With tape we used the JVC software to capture from cam via firewire and went through the same process.

My boss is the tech head and will quiz him on the project settings and all the details and get back to you. But we did it and the result was awesome

Thanks. We seem to be having better luck with the HD200 and the 5.7 upgrade to Avid. The footage we shot on the 100, though, still won't import into Avid properly, even with the upgrade. We actually bought an FCP system just to edit this doc.
