JVC’s br-hd50u alternative HDV Deck
 

Has any one use this Deck for payback of JVC’s 720/30p footage?

Sony GV-HD700 HDV Video Walkman VCR

We need a deck to capture fotage from JVC HD110. Some site list 720p playback and yet some don’t.

We are using Premiere Pro Cs3 with BMD’s intensity Pro. We hope to use the Fire wire to control the deck and capture using HDMI as MJPED compression AVI.

The deck is affordable enough as capture beck. We don’t need it to record, as we plan to give the client final footage in Blue ray.

Wow! Its justs what ive been looking for but im sure theres a catch. My guess is it wont do 720p 30 (which is o.k. with me) Most of the sony decks I see will do 720p but only through analog. I dont know if you can use Firewire just for control and scene detection if you can where do I sign?!?!

I read somewhere that it play out 1080i (HDV2) & 720p (HDV1) too. Not sure is this is true. The 720p with not payout from fire wire but will do so from component and HDMI.
Anyone has here has one of this deck?

In my ealier post I said I didint think it would do 720p 30 I meant 720p 24. I cant find any info on it anywhere except sonys website but since its a consumer piece theres not much on it. I dont mind doing componmet or HDMI as long as the firewire can send the timecode data.

Here is the only mention of 720p:
"Your VCR can playback pictures recorded in the HDV 720/p30 format, but cannot output it from the HDV/DV (ilink) interface."

I think it might work for HDMI though...

I dont know if it helps but I ran a test with a VX-2000 (sony DV) I hooked up the firewire BUT I took the s-video out to the intensity card. It took the video from the s and the control from the firewire so in theory your idea should work. Now who wants to put up the $1,000 to know for sure:)

although you still dont have "Scene detection" but at least you can set an outpoint if you want to capture unattended.

HDMI output could bring your JVC HDV stuff from your 200/250 out the HDMI and into your system via a Blackmagic card perhaps?

Can it up convert 720p from JVC to 1080 via HDMI & component? Maybe use fire wire to control the deck. And capture both 720p 04 1080i via BMD intensity pro.

Has any one invested in this deck yet?

I think my Sony DSR-30 is going to cost $1,000 or more to fix the Firewire. in that case it makes more sense to buy this deck. Im not doing much HD yet so I just need to DV deck.

Right now theres a BR-HD50U on ebay for $600 current bid. I wish I had that money now id bid.

I think the bad part is that JVC looks like they will get out of the "tape" game with some of the newer cameras so decks are going to be harder and harder to come by.

I've got two of the BR-50U decks. We use HDMI out into a Convergent Design HDConnectMI converter. http://www.convergent-design.com/CD_...DConnectMI.htm

We then come out HD-SDI into a Kona3 card. We normally stay in 720p because it's good to stick to a format, it's JVC's native format, and we like progressive scan better than interlaced, though I imagine we could import it just as easily as 1080i.

The good thing about this setup is that
A) You are no longer editing long GOP HDV, with all it's problems.
B) The Kona card does hardware conversions--so 1080i, 1080p, 720p, 480p, 480i, 486i are all converted on the import.
C) The video can be square-pixel instead of anamorphic.
D) You can import into any codec Final cut has to offer (i.e. Prores422)
E) You can import and edit at 720p, then use the Kona card to hardware convert on export to another format.

The Bad:
A) Kona3 cards are expensive.
B) Kona3 cards are expensive.
