Capturing HDV on Movie Maker

Realizing this is no seasoned operator's choice, but I have a fairly new Toshiba laptop, running Vista, and I noticed Movie Maker now captures HDV. So I hooked up my JVC Gy-HD110 with firewire (big end-cam, little end-laptop) and gave it a shot.

Movie Maker went into high def. mode (good start), said it was recording. However nothing showed in the computer's preview screen and my camera wasn't responding. Of course no captured footage.

Lap is DuoCore, 1.5 ghz; two gigs ram, plenty of hard drive space.

Anybody tried capturing HDV in Movie Maker?
