Sigma 120-300 f2.8 on a JVC- any experience?

Hi all,

I consider getting this lens for wildlife work. I realise there is no aperture ring on the lens so I guess I can only use it when the iris is in the default position.

Does anyone have any experience with this lens? Will I be able to use it wide open at f2.8? Is it very sharp? Contrast? Colours? Any other issues I should take into account?

Thanks!

Levy,

I would recomend AGAINST any lens that didn't have an aperature ring. Limiting yourself to wide open is not where you want to be on any lens. You would get tons of CA on anything bright I would imagine.

There's lots of good used Nikon/Nikor lenses out there now that everyone is dumping thier 35mm. A autofocus Nikon/Nikor will also work, as long as there is an aperature ring on it. Do you have your adapter yet?

I'm going ot order my adapter later this month and give my Nikon/NIkor lenses a whirl. Since I haven't used my 35mm in 10 years. Looking forward to my 100 & 135mm fixed Nikor lenses. Should be pretty good. Certainly better than the 16x Fujinon ever thought of being past 50mm let alone at 135mm

Thanks Alex ! I guess you are right and as much a I love the idea of having this zoom range I will have to give it up.
I got the Nikon adapter from Mike Tapa and I use the Nikon 80-200 f2.8 on a Sony Z7E so far I am very happy with the results.

Experience with the sigma 120-300

Hi Ofer.

I use this zoom on a JVC H200 with the Mike Tappa Nikon adapter, and Im very happy with the results. Very sharp images and contrast even if you shoot at f/2,8, getting best performance at f5,6-8. I just finished a wildlife short video for a Natural Park here in Spain, and the shoots of waders and gulls are fantastic.
The only issue with this lens is its weigth, that force you to buy rods in order to not to break the adapter. I have the Cavision carbon rodas and works fine. And also a good tripod head!

I hope it helps you.
Cheers

Ah, very good photos Ofer, by the way!
