Unable to capture HD24p or HD60p in Final Cut Pro

I just recently bought an HD200 and just got finished filming a "The making of" type of music video in HD720/60P and when I went to go capture from the camera (no deck at this point) Final Cut gave me the generic "Could not initialize deck" error for every HD format except the basic HD720p with 30 frames per second. Since the video is being captured at half the frames per second I am getting some strange speed variations. At first I thought I could just double the speed to imitate 60 frames, but when I did that it lowered the video quality and and made the speed too fast for real time.

I've tried to search for an answer through DVinfo and Google and even the owners manuals of Final cut and my camera, but I can't find this specific problem.I've tried capturing on two different machines and always the same error.

I'm pretty sure (99.9%) you are going to need FCP 6.x for capture via firewire.

Final Cut Pro 5 only does 720 30p. Anything else and you will need Final Cut Pro 6.

You need Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 ( not 6.0.3 ´cause this version have ISSUE in capture.)

Hi, you need Final Cut Pro 6.0 or 6.0.2 , the version 6.0.3 , in my case and in the other people, have a capture ISSUE SEARCHING FOR MEDIA, recently y have to Downgrade all my edit station for this issue from 6.0.3 to 6.0.2, and the quicktime version to 7.3.1, with this version no problen in capture in 720P24 or 60.

FCP v5.1.2 added HDV 720p24 support (& 720p25)

FCP v6.0.2 added HDV 720p60 support (& 720p50)

It should be noted that if you have an aja or black-magic interface and a disk array you can capture 720P 60 straight out of the analog component outputs.

Thank you

Thank you all kindly for the responses. I've been fiddling around with the settings and found a way to make it so it looks pretty good for 30p (as in not looking like a home video). What I did was I captured in Final cut using the HDV 720p30 apple intermediate codec and then I opened the captured clips in Quicktime Pro and exported them at 720p60 and then opened them back up in Final Cut in a 24P timeline...this also solved the problem I had with slowing down the video (it would slower a portion of it and then the end would be a freeze frame).

I'll try to convince my boss to upgrade to v6...but I'm not sure if he will. Guess I'll have to deal for now.
