Frozen Frame Recorded On Tape!?

Ive experienced this a couple of times and its getting alarming. Upon capturing my footage it suddnly freezes. The frozen frame is on the lcd and in the captured clip in my computer. After a while, which could run to minutes, the footage continues to play but in the current time on tape. meaning that a portion of footage was "covered" by the frozen frame.

On the cam LCD i can see the timecode running while the image is frozen. And the sign 'MODE CHANGING" keeps on flashing.

Is this some sort of tape drop out?

Can this be avoided with different tape stock?

Can I avoid this if i buy a firstore or another kind of DTE?

Please help.

Hi Ted,

What exact camera do you have? The HD100?
What you describe looks to be exactly the old issue of the first series which was fixed with the A-update.

Ted,
I had a similar experience with my HD200. It records a single still frame of video. I had to have mine sent back to JVC, where it still sits, weeks later. Apparently it's waiting on a new part.
If I were you, I'd have it inspected by your local JVC rep. I don't think this condition will get better on its own.

Oh boy. So this is not just on the hd100 then. Will this be solved then using a DTE? A firestore for instance?

I have a Firestore, but I never hooked it up to see if it would have worked. When I saw the tape problem, I immediately took it to my JVC rep, who sent it off to JVC for repairs.
If you have access to a Firestore, give it a test run.

It is the mode changing bug. You need the 'A' update.

Yes will appear only on tape, but still, I would go for the A-update.
As they also re-calibrated my camera.
It was a free update then. Don't know if that is still the case.
