Any experience with the MTF Nikon to 1/3" adaptor?

Brian Standing has already responded in another thread about using Mike Tapa's Nikon to 1/3" bayonet adaptor on a JVC HD camera. Wondering if anyone else here has any first hand experience they'd like to share. I own 2 HD200u's and am eyeing up the new 700 series solid state camera for purchase.

Of course, I understand that the adaptor induces a magnification factor of 7x, turning virtually any lens into a telephoto but this may serve a very specific purpose for me.

I should mention that I e-mailed Mike directly via his website and got an incredibly prompt and informative response from him.

This thread:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/jvc-pro-h...fitment-3.html
has a good general discussion of these kind of SLR-lens adapters. There's some discussion of the Mike Tapas adapter towards the end.

Thanks (again) Brian. Didn't find that one in my search. This looks better all the time for telephoto work...

Shaun,
I bought Eric's HD200 and the Zoerk adapter that he mentioned in that thread. He still has the MTF i guess. They are very similar products except for some minor differences.

I always keep that adapter in my kit and has used it a lot in outdoor nature work and some close up shots of mating butterflies and caterpillars using an 80-200 f2.8.

Very handy to have.

Putting on a wide nikon mount lens like a sigma 20-40mm or 15-30mm or 10mm can be usable for medium shots of talents.

Thanks Ted. With say a 10mm, do you get the barrel distortion that one would expect of an extreme wide angle or is that negated by the magnification factor of the adaptor?

Ted Ramasola February 3rd, 2009 12:36 PM

yes, to some extent the barrel distortion is somewhat "neutralized" for lack of a better term.

If your interested to get an MTF, you can try emailing Eric Gulbransen over at the Cinealta EX threads since I think he had a new one made for his EX3 so his MTF for the JVC is probably up for sale.

Having this zoerk/mtf adapter could also allow you to experiment with a relay lens for a 35 lens adapter i saw dome guy here having some success with it on his jvc.

Thanks for the heads up, Ted. I bought the JVC Prime Lens Adaptor so I'm covered for ciné lenses. Just looking for inexpensive ways of adding to my choices, especially for tele work.
