FCP 720/30p timeline...can I drop 720/24p footage in?

Hey everyone
I am shooting a documentary on a JVC HD100 and a JVC HD250. I started the project at 720/30p because I was going to cut on an Avid, and Avid didn't support 720/24p.

I switched over to Final Cut 6.0.5 as we got rolling, and thus began a project at 720/30p.

I now would like to shoot 720/24p and was told that it would not be a problem to load 24p footage into the 30p timeline. Can anybody confirm this?

I don't have my gear with me to run a test, and was hoping to shoot 24p today. Thanks all.

You're best bet is to make your sequences 720p60 (aka 720p59.94) and let FCP6 automatically add the proper pulldown when you insert your 720p24 and 720p30 clips.

If you were to put 720p24 into 720p30 sequences you might find that the pulldown is not smooth (even though FCP will do its best to add some sort of pulldown to make up the extra 6 frames.)

Hmmm another reason I need to upgrade... Running studio 1 myself. Waiting for studio 3 at NAB. Anyway, what I did (same issue) was export the unedited 30p footage to 24p with the motion adjuster and every other setting at best, and it came out quite well. Took for ever though. Probably didn't need to do everything at best, but the nearest frame setting looked like ugly 30p 24p conversion, and I was unwilling to experiment.
