Skin tones too pink on HD111, need to fix ASAP

Hi forum,

I am getting really bad skin tones on my HD111 on 720p. I have tried TC3 and now am back to the factory preset as this did not help. I am doing some corporate work on Tuesday and would really like to solve this before then or I am going to end up with lobster syndrome.

I did use a colour chart once (had to send it back) but the pink was looking rather OTT when viewed on Adobe OnLocation using the vectorscope.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Alex

To me it looks that it are images from the stocklens with F1.4 setting?
If so, try to exposure at 4 to 5.6 instead.

Hi Marc,

It's a bit more complicated than that. This was taken through the stock lens (at f4 or f5.6), through an SGBlade connected to a 105mm Nikkor at f2.5

Despite this crazyness I have been having the 'pink' issue way before when just using the stock lens at a combination of f settings.

Indeed sounds more complicated then that. Maybe the lens needs to be corrected for White Shading in the camera.
You might be able to adjust it with the 'Shading' setting available in the 'Advanced Process Menu' by using a Grey Scale chart / White Chart and OnLocation?
But I'm not 100% sure if that menu option is available on the HD111... it might be added in the HD2xx series only.

The HD100 series camera always had a magenta bias out-of-the-box. It is fairly easy to adjust with a combination of the matrix controls and the white paint controls.

I'm sorry I don't have the SG Blade or your particular Nikon lens, which would be required for me to create a calibrated setting for you.

However, this is a setting I have for the old stock Fujinon lens 16x5.5 that should work well for skin tone at the expense of slightly greenish yellows. (JVC added an extra adjustment to control yellow/green in the HM700 - I wish the HD-series had it!)

Do an AWB white balance first (you can't tweak white paint with WB presets.)

COLOR MATRIX and GAMMA STANDARD

R GAIN 1
R ROT 3
G GAIN 2
G ROT -1
B GAIN 2
B ROT -1

WHITE PAINT R -15
WHITE PAINT B -5

I know it looks crazy on paper but it actually subdues the luminance of the red channel while maintaining proper tonal qualities. Please try it out and let me know if it improves your particular setup.
