JVC 110u and tripod adapter?
 

Silly little question, I'm considering buying a used 110u, and I was wondering if it needed a special adapter plate from JVC or if I can just screw in any typical plate, like one from a Monfrotto?

typical plate will do fine. I did get a JVC tripod plate, which is identical to a standard Sony broadcast, except it comes with an additional mount to screw into the bottom of the JVC HD100/110 cameras (I don't think the 200 needs the additional mount).

Basically it means that instead of a single 1/3 screw holding your camera to a mount, it means you have 4 screws attaching a mount (think of it as a small shoe) that then quickly mounts onto a JVC/sony quick release plate. It's better than just a 1/3 screw with a manfrotto plate would be. Will your life change with it? Will your footage suddenly become more stable? Probably not. Am I glad I spent $300 for it? ehh... probably not. Better to put the $300 towards a Sachtler FSB-8 I think. But it is a nice mount. If therw was someway to have the mount attach to the back of your camera like the 200/250 series cameras do that would be sweet. But yes, it's better than simpler (cheaper) mounts. So I think I'm glad I bought it.... maybe. not bad or anything, just expensive.

Ed, the Sony plate or the JVC version thereof is really useful since so many people and firms around the world have it.
I even have a Vocas rail baseplate with the Sony V-shape on my 251 - it always stays on.
Even doing heavy ciné work with dollies etc.
They're expensive but don't wear out so you can find them second hand in good working order instead of blowing hundreds of $$

No, I really do like it. It's positive and works and no danger of THINKING it's secure, tilting and watching your camera slide out in front of you. So yes, it's good, I still think it's expensive, especially since with a HD110 you need to get the JVC one so you can get the shoe to mount to your camera to make it work. But yes, it's good. And I grudgingly admit I am happy I got it.
