Anyone know where to find the shaprness mode in HD100U? I have cheked the menu and can't find it.

its called "detail"

Here's a TIF of my resolution tests using the detail control on MIN, NORMAL and MAX. I should have tried OFF as well, but I didn't realize it existed until I reread the manual.

T. Dashwwod,

What are your thoughts on why the f2 detail max has less resolution than the f1.4 or f2.8 detail max?

I think it is just a compression artifact. It doesn't really make sense otherwise.

I think ƒ2.8 is the sweetest spot on the lens in conjunction with the size of CCD and density of pixels. It is just as well considering we all want short DOF on these little chips.
I think diffraction might already be taking effect at ƒ4~5.6. If I had a colour printer I would print the chart in Red, green, and blue and then compare diffraction limits for the different wavelengths.
The math doesn't match my results, but I would expect sharp shooting at any opening from ƒ2 to 5.6 or maybe even 8.

Here's an interesting article that deals with the math of Airy discs, diffraction, and 1/3" HD chips.
