JVC has updated their FAQ again.
 

So now the FAQ says "What is the native resolution of the chips in the GY-HD100?" instead of "Rarely, a faint vertical line appears in the centre of the screen - is this normal?" At least they didn't delete the explanation of SSE.

They also have the chart comparing media costs. I like how they point out that the HVX200 shooting P2 will cost $17,599 per hour! Very funny. They included ProHD-HDD (Firestore) but didn't mention that Panasonic will also have their own version of firestore for DVCPROHD.

The system that Panny is using does not connect to the camera, nor does it work like the Firestore for DV or HDV. You still have to record to the P2 cards, then remove the P2 cards from the camera, insert them (one at a time) into the AJ-PCS060G P2 Store, copy the files over to the P2 Store, erase the P2 Card, and reuse it. The AJ-PCS060G will hold data from 7 8Gb P2 cards.

That's true, but I was referring to the fact that a DVCPROHD version of Firestore is set to be released within months - specifically for use with the HVX200. I think it might be a little unfair for JVC not to include that info in their chart.

As of the posting date of the updated FAQ pages, the firestore (or the HVX200 for that matter) does not exist on the market to purchase. Maybe they'll update it once the HVX200's FS is actually available?

Hi Rob, you're not describing the DVCPRO HD FireStore there, but rather the AJ-PCS060 P2 Store, which as Tim Dashwood points out above is an entirely different animal. The DVCPRO HD FireStore from Focus Enhancements is a 100GB hard disk recorder which connects to a P2 camera directly via FireWire. The model number is the FireStore DS-100. This is what Tim was referring to when he said that Panasonic would have their own version of the FireStore for DVCPRO HD.

I love the way they take about 300+ words to say "No".

Rather tahn 4:2:0 HDV being downsampled to 4:1:0, I would think it would be closer to being capable of being downsampled to 4:2:2. UPsampling DV 4:2:0 to HDV would be what would give you HDV 4:1:0....
JVC just seem to be making excuses again for not putting in an important feature.

You'd have to really try hard to implement downsampling HDV to DV very wrongly to generate a 4:1:0 result. For JVC to suggest that this is the case is wrong. This JVC "faq" continues to make me angry.

I hadn't heard about this. If it really is going to happen, I'm definately going to set my sights on the HVX-200.

Has there been any talk about variable frame rate capabilities??????

You should probably direct your questions over in the HVX forum. As a quick answer, yes there's been an announcement for the HVX, yes it'll be able to record the variable frame rates (as transmitted within a 60p data stream), and yes there will be other products besides the FireStore (Specialized Communications has announced that they'll be introducing their own hard disk recorder at the upcoming Government Video Expo).
