And if I will want to use the Fujinon 1/3" lenses on a 2/3" CCD camera...

OK! We know there is a waste of technology. But if for any reason, can it be necessary? Even if I can have the money to upgrade to a 2/3" camera and not enough to the bundle with not less than plus $10,000, or even more, to the 2/3" lens.

We are talking about of an unexpensive $800 HD lens. What any other HD lens I have for the same price range?!

Or will it have any unpredicted effect? A 1/3" lens on a 2/3" CCD camera will provide at least the same quality that its use on a 1/3" CCD camera if not better. Isn't it? I'd like hear your thoughts, please. And any info about any lens or camera adapter in order to a solution like that.

So, is there any 2/3" adapter to 1/3" lenses like the Fujinon provided with the HD100 for its aplication/use on a 2/3" camera? The future GY-HD7000 for example? Or the GV Infinity HD (10-bit as camcorder)?

Or a 1/2" CCD camera adapter to the Sony's XDCAM-HD PDW-F330/350 series?

ignoring the obvious issue of optical quality, the biggest problem you are likely to have is the fact the image circle of the 1/3" lens will be too small.

Every lens produces an image as a circle. The CCD needs to sit within this image circle. The image circle is bigger than needed, but not always by a lot. If you put a 1/2 or 2/3" sensor in place of the 1/3" the sensors outer edges (especially the corners) will be positioned outside the image circle and so you will end up with an image that looks like you are looking through a large peep whole. Like the most extreme case of vignetteing you can imagine :-(

The same potential problems exists for anyone who buys one of these new "Digital" still camera lens (like the Nikon DX series). If they ever buy a full frame DSLR they lens will basically be useless on that camera.

So in summary, no, you shouldn't consider buying this camera with the hope to re-use the lens on a 1/2 or 2/3" model in the future.

I partly agree with Guy. The image circle is already too small on the stock lens with the 1/3" 16x9 CCD, and therefore creates some unnecessary vignetting.
If you were able to put this lens on a 2/3" camera, you would have a circle in the middle of the screen.

However, I think that the optical quality (resolving resolution) would still be quite good since the density of a 2/3" CCD would be less than the 1/3" and the size of 2/3" pixels would be larger.

the obvious issue of quality was only really in relation to the quality of the lens itself (CA etc) ;-)
