Problem capturing BRHD50 to Kona downconverted

Here's a strange problem I'm having. When I send video shot in HDV and downconverted to NTSC via the HD50 to the analog inputs of our Kona LH systems, the FCPro capture window spins with the wheel of death for about 30 seconds or longer before beginning the capture. Then it spins again when we hit esc. The clip that is captured seems fine, though.

This problem makes batch capture of downconverted material impossible.

This only happens when we downconvert video to NTSC output (480i setting in HD50 menu) . I can capture from my Beta SP deck to the analog inputs just fine as well. I can also capture 720p footage via Kona 720p 59.94 to FCPro with no troubles. I can capture DV footage shoot with the JVC as well. Only downconverted video played in the HD50 deck causes this problem.

I have two FCPro systems with the HD50 and BOTH do the exact same thing.
I'd like to hear from anyone with a similar experience. Or how to overcome this problem.

Aja tech support has no ideas. I emailed JVC with no help either. So I'm at a loss.

BR-HD50 Deck continues to give up problems

I reported in Feb. about how our two VTR's were giving us problems. Here is a synopsis of the issues we've encountered. Both decks behave the same way.

Overheat warning and shut down during batch capture to Kona via analog outputs. This is using RS 422 control to capture a bunch of HD clips via Kona analog input. Deck switches into PAL mode after shut down. Happens pretty much each time.

Problem with NTSC output via downconverted analog outputs. This is with Kona and FCP. Log and capture does not like the input and when catpure now is selected, 15-30 second delay occurs before capture proceeds. I can switch to a Beta deck hooked up to the same inputs and it works flawlessly. Happens each time downconvert is selected and capture is started.

One of our editors reported today a disturbing problem. He found that when a tape reaches the end, it rewinds and the deck then switches into Record mode and begins recording over anything on the tape! I have not tested this one, but he told me it does happen.

This is just and update as none of these problems have not been resolved. We sent one deck back to JVC, and I belive the overheat problems are less prevelent. They may have adjusted the temp warning trigger point. With so much attention focused on the camera, I'd like to hear from people using this deck, which, IMHO has many more issues than the HD100U.

A temp work-around for the time being....

Why don't you just use:
HDVXDV to capture to .m2t file

Import the .m2t file into Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/)
Fix the timecode breaks. Then convert the HD100U footage into your
desired format.

Also, have both of you ever noticed a horizontal thin blue line
at the bottom of the video and the black letterbox when
doing an analog downcoversion thru the S-Video Out of the deck?
I talked to JVC and they have no idea.....
