Teeny rods?

Has anyone figured out what the tiny little rods are for on the HD100? I extend mine from time to time and stare at them. I can't imagine what you could use them to support.

The only thing they're there for is to keep the camera from tipping forward from the weight of the lens while sitting on a flat surface (table, etc.)

I used them for mounting a Sachtler plate (not the small DV type). They increased the support area on the base of the camera.

Just be careful that if you have the rods extended, and the camera attatched to a quick-release plate, that the rods are not having undo pressure put upon them pushing upwards.

I had the assembly that contains the rods crack on me. I didn't see it happen, and JVC fixed it without fuss when the cam went in for something else, but it impressed upon me that maybe they shouldn't be extended when they don't need to be.

There didn't seem to be much pressure on them, but that's a good point. You could over pack the front of the quick release plate with camera tape and forcing the rods up.

Aren't they for adjusting the shoulder pad back/forth?

?? I'm not sure everyone is on the same subject.

I have also been wondering what its used for. Keeping the camera from falling forward is nifty but I thought it had more purpose.

Nope. That's it. They're just a kickstand to keep the cam from tipping forward.
