Capture question

Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to capture from tape without using editing software. At the moment I'm downloading from my firestore which works fine but I have some footage on tape that I would like to put onto my computer but I don't have edit software at the moment. I can't imagine it's as easy as connecting to the comp via firewire but I haven't tried so don't really know what would happen.

Thanks in advance, Greg.

Hi Greg.

If you've got a Mac (or even if you can get temporary access to a Mac), there is a free software application from Apple which will capture the .m2t files for you. It's called “DVHSCap”. It is part of the “FireWire SDK 20” package and can be downloaded from this page:

Hi Greg,

On the PC use CapDVHS. It is a capture program that will place the m2t's in a folder for you. There is no remote deck control and you'll have to start and stop the deck by hand.

good luck...

Connect HD

Another program for PC iHDV captures is Connect HD from Cineform.

It does have deck control, captures time code, puts m2t's in a folder and works pretty good with the HD-100. The downside is that it costs $199. But I've had good luck with it and this allows me to edit both in Canopus Edius and Avid Xpress Pro HD.

Or... Aspect HD, also from Cineform if you are on the PC platform and using Premiere.
