What about new lenses?

The HD200/HD250 are great, but does anyone have any details about new lenses from Fujinon or Canon? Surely there has to be some new lenses on the showroom floor but sadly, I can't find reports or any press releases from either of them about new 1/3" lenses. Say it ain't so!

Tim,

They have a glass display with several new lenses from Canon and Fujinon.

Canon has a 19x for $10K and Fuji has a 17x for $10K and another lens but not sure what it was. The prices were quoted to me by a JVC rep (Cark Hicks who is on this board), I also my have the specs wrong but I remember the prices were between $8K - $10K.

Dan,

What are the len's on the wide end?

Warren Jobe April 25th, 2006 05:30 PM

It seems that the lenses announced are all 2/3" HD/studio lenses:

Canon YJ20x8.5B and YJ13x6B series (both 2/3" lenses), Fujinon HA16x6.3ERM (2/3" lens) and HA27x6.5ESM (HD studio lens).

So, no new lenses specifically for the 1/3" or 1/2" format?

Nate Weaver April 25th, 2006 10:22 PM

The new lenses are for 1/3" for sure.

The wide ends on each is not besting the current 13x, though.

Will you have an option pay extra to have the new lens instead of the current stock lens?

The lens "picture" is:

There are 6 lenses (5 ENG) for the GY-HD100/200/250
1 Th16x55 Fujinon that ships with GY-HD100 since to began

2 Th13x35BRMU - Fujinon - $11,995 - shipping
3 HTs19x42BRM-M48 - Fujinon - maybe $10,800 - Maybe Sept 2006
4 Th17x5BRM - Fujinon - maybe $3,300 - Maybe Sept 2006
5 KT20x58KRS - Canon - maybe $10,000 - Maybe Nov 2006

6 Th17x5BRM-MD Fujinon motor drive for Pan/Tilt maybe $4000 maybe Sept2006

So 2 thru 5 are the optional lenses.

At this time the GY-HD250 is thought to be available late 2006 without lens and the GY-HD200 said "TBD" as a body only.

Stephen L. Noe April 26th, 2006 07:53 AM

Thanks for the list Ken.

I guess the 13x lens that's now available is the KING of wide angle for all len's in the near future. I have a question about the adapter for 16mm lens'. When is it's expected delivery date?

Tim Le April 26th, 2006 09:47 AM

Thanks everyone for reporting back.

Ken: In the Highway newsletter that JVC Europe puts out, they mentioned new 12X, 17X and 18X lenses from Fujinon and a single lens from Canon. Do you know if Fujinon killed the 12X?

Here's the newsletter:

I can't seem to find any info on the new lenses.... really depressing. Can anyone help or do I just need a lot more patience?

Stephan Ahonen May 3rd, 2006 11:31 AM

Canon's got a bunch of 1/2" lenses aimed at Sony XDCAM users, but will work for us with a 1/2" adaptor.

http://www.canon.com/bctv/products/index_hdgc.html

The 21x5.7 and the 10x3.6 are probably all we're concerned with. Beware the statistics on field of view and whatnot on the individual pages for the lenses, they're given for a 1/2" camera, a 1/3" camera would have a narrower field of view on that same lens.

The downside: Both lenses are about $25k. Each. Eek. Still... If you need 240mm of flawless telephoto (i.e. shooting sports or documentary) while still being able to come wide enough for general shooting, that's the lens for you.

Me, I'd rather wait till I can buy a lens that doesn't cost more than 2-4 times the price of the camera.

that's on of the reasons i'm interested in 1/3 inch lenses only: the weight and compacness, price, no 1 k dollar adapter needed, and no worries about field of view....

There was a thread during NAB that talked about the new lenses coming out. Some of them were demoed at NAB.

A key lens was the new 17x Fuji that is a little wider than the current lens and lists at $3K.

The others were around $8-10K.

Th17x5BRM - Fujinon

Daniel, awesome if that is the case, I was about to say this is the lens to watch for most of the JVC users, with the price bracket etc. And have the extra 1 x multiplication at the wide end. Still being real, not expecting it to beat a $10000 lens in quality, but obviously a improvement over the $800 lense!
