Right now, I'm using "Export Using Compressor", then selecting DVD Best quality 90min 2-pass.

It takes a while but the results look great on standard definition DVD.

I am going back to tape, not DVD. Normaly I would just open a new sequence 720x480 and drop my 720px1280 in to it, is this the best way?

Export with Quicktime (do not use Export using compressor), select "Current settings", Audio and video, do NOT select "Make movie self contained".

This will generate a QT reference movie, drop it in compressor and select a suitable NTSC compression. Go for the highest quality. You can enter the cropping if you shot the footage in 16:9.

It's pretty surprising how nicely Compressor downconverts HD to SD.

I have heard that you should change the motion rendering to "fastest" instead of best for HDV, is that true?
