Hi Guys -

I am looking for some suggestions. I am shooting a short corporate movie in 720 24P. For one scene, I will need to film a plasma TV/monitor and I wanted to know if there is a setting on the camera to eliminate any screen flicker?

Suggestions?

Also...are dolly shots advisable with shooting in 24P...as long as we follow the action and go slow?

A flat screen should not pose any problem.

A Tube based set will.

Set your shutter for 1/60 and it should be ok.

You basically match the shutter to the refresh rate and it clear it up.

Hey Mark if your shooting 24p a 60 shutter is going to give you some problems. I would use 48 as a shutter at that frame rate. Shooting at 30p then 60 is the way to go. I shoot everything at 30p and 60. That's just me I like the way it looks.

wouldn't matter. On 24p it should match the refresh rate of the screen, for tubes that is.

LCD screens usually present no problems with flicker, but can be tricky with the comb pattern. You may find that you need to defocus slightly if attempting to shoot the screen full-frame.

If you are using CRT NTSC monitors, then a shutter speed of 59.94 should eliminate flicker. If you have a CRT computer display, set the shutter setting (in switches menu) to VARIABLE and then use the shutter dial to match the Hz rate set on the CRT monitor.
