Direct Recording To Hard Drive Options???
Are there any other options other
than: Firestore or Citidisk to directly record to a hard drive system? |
nNovia QuickCapture, but I haven't looked at it in a while and I don't know if it's HDV-compatible or not.
Then there's Sony's DR60 coming out, but I don't know if it supports JVC's HDV or only Sony's. |
DV Rack has a recording feature, but it requires a laptop, so it's not the most portable option. Still, lots of added value with scopes, a 720 true HD monitor built-in (along with SD versions), and nice still store feature.

I am very happy with my Citidisk. it was alot cheaper than the firestore, and I still got more drive space.
And, during a shoot the drive slid off the shoe mount and fell 6 feet onto concrete, bounced twice and went across the floor. Still works. Dont know why it fell off though. |
Thanks Jim, i didnt know about the Citidisk but a question, you still have to convert the M2t files for FCP correct or can you use the Quicktime .mov codec to capture to the drive? (i certainly not try'n to be cynical, looking for a solution to tape and capturing :)

You are tied into the M2T files with HDV.
Witht the citidisk in DV mode you can go straight to mov files. |
Are all HDV direct to disk systems only able to record in .m2t format?
What would the best application be for a studio setting for direct to disk options? Anyone out there make a multiple input direct to disk system; rackmount system? How about firestore? Able to make 720 24p .mov files directly from the HD100U? Anyone doing direct to disk and working with the updated FCP / 24P HDV? |
