ProHD Lens Options

To All ProHD Users/Enthusiast:

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are finally getting some solid information on the new 1/3" lens options for the ProHD family of cameras.

In addition to the 16X and 13X wide angle already available the following part numbers will be available. I have word that the Fujinon's should be shipping in the immediate future and the Canon lens will not be shipping until, perhaps the end of the year....

Again, all of these lens options will work for the GY-HD100/110/200/250

Fujinon TH17X5BRMU
List Price $3,300.00

Fujinon HTS18X4.2BRM
List Price $10,800.00

Both of these Fuji lens options have 3 different lens control options available.

Canon KT20x5B KRS
List Price $9,800.00

Canon will have 2 different lens control options for this lens.

Should you have any additional questions or like to be informed the moment that these start to become available please contact TapeWorks Texas, Inc.

new lenses reviews

thanks for the heads up, what I really would like to hopefully start seeing is some reviews of these new lenses. I'd hate to pay even $3300 for the new 17x5 Fujinon, and find its the same quality as the 16x5.5 but is only a little wider.

I talked to a Fuji rep in the JVC booth at NAB about the new 17x lens. He said that the lens quality would be much better than the 16x standard lens. Not as good as the 13x or the other high end lens, but that it would be a big improvement from the 16x lens.

Granted this was the Fuji rep, but he is comparing one of his lenses to another one that they produce. Keep in mind that they want to sell more lenses so of course they would say that the new one is better.

We need to see if someone can test the lenses soon.

JVC 13x3.5 has less breathing than $16,500 Fuji

Having sold my HD100 and 13x3.5 lens and bought an XDCAM HD camera and an XS3.3x13 BRM (or something like that) 1/2" lens that lists for $16,500 (of course I paid way, way less), I appreciate the JVC lens more than ever.

While it's true that 3.3 on a 1/2" camera is MUCH wider than 3.5 on a 1/3" camera so the comparison is a bit unfair, the JVC Fuji clearly has less barreling and much less breathing than its big brother.

The overall picture quality of my 1/2" lens seems to be superb, but then so was the JVC's.

Bottom line, if you have the 13x3.5 JVC Fujinon lens, you have a very nice piece of equipment which I miss... WAHHHHHH!

new 17x5 fujinon - package option?

Hey Carl,

this tune may have been played a little before, but since you've given us a rough idea of what the 16x5.5 cost, can there be a small upgrade fee to use the new Fujinon instead. At an extra $1100, I'd definitely buy this if the lens truly is an improvement.

"It's not available from sales as a separate item. But, it can be ordered thru the parts department, as follows:

Part #LW30610-001B LENS - FUJINON LENS $2,208.07"

Lens trade-ins or upgrades would be a topic you would need to discuss with your reseller.

I remember a figure of around $800 being charged for the bundled 16x lens.

JVC would have to agree to subsidise and alternative model lens most likely in the form of another kit to get an option of only around the $1100. I wouldn't hold my breath for that to happen.

Your only real option would be to buy the body only with no lens and purchase your choice of lens separately. Then you have to consider paying the $800 extra for the bundled lens anyway even as a cheap spare....

To keep things in persepctive...
The company that sells Super16 Optar Illumina primes, has them listed for 12,500 msrp for either PL or Arri Bayonet. Just add the JVC PL mount. Very fast glass that compares favorably with Zeiss Superspeeds.
The set consist of a total of six lenses from 8mm to 50mm all rated at T1.3.

http://www.optarillumina.info/optar.html

btw, if you search the web and see a place called Kiev Camera listing them, they no longer sell them. The above site is the actual company, ran by the guy who designed the lenses.

I can't help but wonder what John Jackman could have done with these!
