HD50 - "1394" flashing

The deck's LED display flashes the number every so often, sometimes after a tape has been inserted, other times after a rewind. FW control and signal work, though, I am able to capture to FCP. The deck is connected to the computer via a FW patch bay. This started happening recently, possibly (not sure) coinsiding with the deck's firmware upgrade. Any ideas?

1394 is the official number assigned by IEEE for the FireWire protocol.

I know that, thanks Eric. The question is WHY is it happening?

Eric Darling December 5th, 2006 07:30 PM

It's a good question - it's happening on my deck as well.

JVC - please respond

I still haven't found out why the deck is flashing the '1394'? It happens every now and then, even when used on its own without any NLE. I just did a DV FW dub between the HD50 and Sony DSR-11 and while rewinding the tape in the HD50 the display briefly flashed '1394' again before switching back to TC.

The deck is connected via a 6-to-6 FW cable to a FW patchbay (all 6 pin) and then it goes either to the NLE (Mac G5) or, as in the case today, to a SONY DSR-11, which is also connected via the patchbay and a 6-to-4 pin FW cable.

I don't think that the overall length of the FW cables exceeds 12-13'. I should also say that the deck does respond to commands and transfers signal via its 1394 connection.

Any explanation?

Hello...JVC? Carl Hicks? Anyone? Could you, please, ask your technicians about this? I'd really like to know (before my warranty runs out).
Thanks.
