hd-110-interchangable lense

i've found that the stock lense that came with my hd-110 just doesn't cut it at its widest point(88mm)..i bought the wide angle adapter but still not doing it for me....i know there is an adapter mount to go from the 1/3 to 1/2 lense(about $600)..has anyone done this?? and more importantly, what type of lense did you adapt to it that is not too expensive (don't want to spend more then $2000) that will give it some width on the wide shot??? im shooting real-estate videos and its just not working out.. anyone?anyone?bueller?

You mean 5.5mm right? 88mm is the tele end of the lens. Fox Sports Net around here has an HD100 and uses a 1/2" lens adaptor to get a lens from one of their older DVCPRO cameras on it. The downside to putting a 1/2" lens on a 1/3" camera is that a 1/2" lens is designed with the field of view of a 1/2" chip in mind, so in general the wide end is going to be even more tele than the wide end on a 1/3" lens. You would have to get yourself an "ultra-wide" 1/2" lens in order to get a wide field of view on a 1/3" camera, and the best zoom ratio you could expect would be about 11x, severely limiting the versatility of the camera. Canon makes a 21x lens that comes back to 5.7mm, but that's slightly tighter than the HD100 so it doesn't really help. It's also about $20k.

thank you stephan...i had been warned about the whole 1/3 to 1/2 'magnification/chip' problem before...was hoping someone might of had an alternative to the obvious...since my project doesn't envolve the use of 'hd',24p,16:9,etc(just plain old dv) sounds like it would be cheaper to just go and buy a cheaper dv camera with a 1/2 bayonet lense and go from there....now all i need is the money...thanks again

Century .5x / .7x a solution

Perhaps your solution is the .5x / .7x adapter combination from Century.

They are very good quality and would give you a wide angle of view.

They are not zoom through, but for Real Estate videos you wouldn't have any problem moving toward or away from the subject.

The .7x works alone, and you get .5x by putting the two pieces together.

On the HD110 standard lens, you need to add a metal ring to the threads. Century sells a ring with no glass in it, or you can use a clear filter. You also need the correct adapter ring to go between the WA adapter and the camera.

Go down to my post in the link below. I have full info and links to all the parts, with an explanation:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...ght=wide+angle

The set costs under $1000 at B&H. These are best-selling adapters from Century, and they have been used by many people on many cameras.

Just a note, unlike the JVC screw on adapter, these go on the outside of the lens. They are definitely hefty pieces of glass, hence the need for the extra ring to reinforce the flexible end of the JVC standard lens.
