Monitoring HDV 720 25p 'ggghhhrrr'

Hi

Anyone know how to monitor hdv 720 25p without it costing an arm and a leg?

I have a Sony SD monitor. If I understand correctly there doesn't seem to be any cards that support live down conversion from 720 25p to PAL.

I have been trying to use a dvi splitter cable that then converted to s video but that just gave me lines across the screen. (Video card not powerful enough?)

uggestions very welcome before thermal nuclear exasperation!

Thanks

Trevor

Is this during the shoot or in post?

I've used my old Sony SD monitor whilst shooting HDV 720 25p by using the camera's composite out.

Hi Trevor

It's a good question. What's an arm and a leg to you? I have some suggestions but there's not much point putting them to you without an idea of your budget.

Hi Trevor. In the ''displays'' tab on the system preferences (on the Mac), make sure that you secondary display - TV - is set to Pal television, or something like that. Most likely it's set to NTSC.
That should do it.

Hi Sergio

The only options in the display part of preferences seem to be:

a. Resolution size
b. Colors i.e millions
c. Refresh rate
d. Detect Displays
e. Rotate

Am I in the wrong place or missing something?

Thanks

Hi Antony

No doubt the budget will increase the more desperate I get! At the moment prbably upt o a max of about £1000. But I would obviously rather spend less!

However, I have imminent work to do that I need accurate monitoring for.

Thanks

Trevor, it should be under Refresh Rate... set it to 50 Hz (PAL)

Serge

Thanks. For some reason there isn't a 50hz and 60 & 75hz are the only options that are not greyed out. Don't know why that should be?

Trevor, check this post of mine from a while ago. There, I describe exactly how I do to connect my TV, and use it within FCP. In the attachment #1, ypu can see that I have 50Hz selected... Make sure that you're tuning the NTSC/PAL display, and Not tour primary display... Click 'gather windows' and both displays' preference windows will show up. See if that helps!

A LCD monitor? Af least you'll have a fine view on the definitio when previewing. Color and contrast my be not quite as good. There's another tread going on right now on LCD TV's for watching HD100 footage...

Hi Sergio

I can only say that you are blessed! I do not have the same configuration options as you. I do not have 720x576 or anything like it.

Are you using additional software?

Thanks

Trevor

Hi werner

As this is for colour correction an LCD doesn't seem to be ideal. I have three but none of them accurately represent colour.

Maybe I really am blessed... I have no additional hardware or software, so I really don't know!

I tried...

Good luck,
Sergio.
