Pre-purchase Questions
 

I am looking to purchase an HD camera, so that I may offer HD production services in addition to my current SD services. I have done a great deal of reading and research about all the sub $10,000 cameras and am fairly confident that I am going to purchase the HD110U with Anton Bauer battery system and hard drive recorder.

I am curious though why other people chose the JVC, over say the Panasonic HVX or Canon's HD camera. Also I am wondering if there is anything people don't like about this camera, what would you like to see changed and what are its shortcomings?

well for one, the lens is a real manual lens and changeable.
the canon is not fully manual as i understand it.
the hvx is not removeable.

The lens it comes with is adequate but not great like the Canon stock lens is.
Though the canon lens has its shortcomings as well. (all lenses pretty much do though)

A lot of people dig the layout of switches on the JVC compared to others.
I concur on this.

The focus assist on the JVC is hands down WAY better than the canon or panasonic offer.

The JVC offers the ability to mask hot pixels of they ever show up which is a HUGE plus in my book. The canon and panasonic cameras would require a ccd block change out and that could run over $ 1,000

as far as disadvantages or things I wish the JVC could do:

1. Timecode window on composite downconversion would be nice.

2. Focus assist on composite or component out would be nice.

Adam, i have exactly the same problem, cant choose wether to buy HVX or HD200. I have seen a lot of very very film like pictures captured by HVX. But HD200 looks more like a proffesional camera. I will put a M2 in front of it anyway, but still. And worse thing, i have two days to decide.
I wish i lived in states, so i could send it back for exchange if i wouldn't like it...

i researched these two cameras before buying the hd100. My assessment came down to this:

HD100 is better if you need longer record times and don't want to spend as much money (hvx200 jumps in price when p2 and archiving is factored in).

Hvx200 is better if you need variable frame rates, variable formats and can get by with short record times
