HD250 split clip errors

We recently shot some tapes with our new HD250 and found the same problem the HD100 has with shots being split up durring capture into FCPro. I was hoping this woudn't happen with the new camera, but it's still there. We were doing some time lapse shots, letting the camera run for 5-10 minutes on the same shot.

When I digitize they get split into a random number, at random times, maybe 4-5 clips for one shot. Sometimes it runs longer before the split, sometimes shorter. I can't seem to pin point any common thing.

One thing that seems like it might be happening...on the shoot, it seems like the split problem gets worse as time goes on. Tape 1 has very few breaks, yet Tape 8 has many. I even see a tape hit once in a while right before the break.

Hi Dave,

Quite a bit has been written about this issue on this forum. This is an issue only in FCP. Other HDV NLE's are not experiencing it. It has something to do with FCP mistaking a drop-out or loss of data for the beginning of a new shot. The Apple engineers are aware of it, and are working on it. In the meantime, there are work-arounds that have been outlined on this forum.

Regards,

Just revisiting this problem. Anyone else finding this a difficult problem / work around when capturing long clips in FCPro?

One thing I notice on our monitor is that the video coming from the BR-HD100 stutters 1 or 2 frames right before the clip breaks. If you watch carefully you can predict where the clip will get cut. I would assume this is causing the MPEG stream to create errors on copy or capture. I have not done any testing with our Firestore DDRs, but I am curious if the problem persists only on tape or on both the tape and digital file.

We usually switch into Analog capture via Black Magic when we run into these split up clips. Especially during interviews. So far no fix for us.
