LCD goes white when flipped
 

I take it this is a service issue. Whenever I flip the LCD screen over to tuck it in while turned on, it fades from the center to all white. When I flip it back to face the rear of the camera, it works again, changing back almost instantly. This just started happening today.

This is a feature of a lot of cameras now. Called a '0lux mode' it uses the LCD as a video light when rotated. I think this probably what you are seeing. If so there should be a setting in the menu to disable it and allow normal use of the LCD.

Hmm.... I don't recall ever seeing such a feature in the GY-HD100U menus. I'll check again, but this seems unlikely. When the LCD monitor is flipped out, it deactivates the viewfinder on this model (that's normal behavior). Therefore, I can't see what image I'm recording. This is definitely abnormal.

And rightly so. I'll have to admit I mistook this post for being in the sanyo HD1 forum...
It'd be a bright LCD that could do this on the HD100 past that big lense hood and all! Although I have seen more useless features included with cameras...
