Green capture

Just testing my new JVC 110 and a strange thing happened. Shooting a river in the fog, trunks silhouetted all looked good in the shooting. Using an 85 to cut the blue noise and the built in ND filters. Great stuff I thought! Upon playing back from the camera to capture the last part was all green overcaste. Like chalk and cheese, the difference.

Tim, guru, any suspects, apart from the operator? No SSE though.

Tested the camera this am via the VF and image looks good.

I have a couple questions:

1. Did you capture with firewire or a capture card? What NLE?

2. What type of tape stock are you using?

I suggest taking it back into your dealer and playing your tape back on another camera or deck. If the tape plays back the same way in another machine, then the issue is probably with the encoder. The CCD block or image processor could also be causing an issue, but you said the VF and LCD looked fine.
The cold may have been an issue too. I think the minimum operating temperature is 0°C. I think it was -6°C today in Ottawa (-13°C with the wind chill.)

Thanks for being prompt. I shot it at 8 Celsius (plus) . So temp is within the specs. Just playing around and saw a bit of the dreaded SSE effect even at 0 gain. Can't get that green back right now.
So back to CinequipWhite I suppose.

supplementary...

Captured with DVHScap into G5 via firewire. Not into FCP. On playback the green is shown in the lcd of the camera all the time. Now the green part is the last 30 secs of about 3 minutes shooting. No rain either.

if your green section is moving around either
1; tape problem, crud on the heads
2; loose connection in the camera between VTR and or decoder/ncoder board

check the tape out in another machine. if its ok there, I'd run a cleaning tape on your camera once or twice, then try again. I would also get a know good HDV tape and play that. if that tape plays back with problems, and you've clean the machine, I'd say you have a problem requiring service.

Looks to me like a loose connection between the CCD and encoder since the green channel is fine but red and blue are non existent. Pure guess though, send it back is my advice.
