Actual Resolution

Just a quick question. What is the actual resolution of the files those of you using FCP are getting with the 100? All my file are coming in at 1248 x 702.
I'm wondering if this is normal or if I'm not getting the res I should be?

Nate Weaver April 4th, 2007 02:42 AM

Quicktime player is reporting the size wrong. They can be nothing but 1280x720.

It's a bug, I've seen it as well.

Thanks Nate.
It was quicktime I was looking at, but a computer monitor with component in that I just returned also claimed a lower res of 1220 something by 696. I assumed it was the monitor until I noticed that some of my quicktime were saying the similar low res numbers. This morning I noticed that my kona captured dvcprohd clips report the same actual res of 1248x702 as my firewire hdv clips.
So this is a flaw with how quicktime reads its files, good to know.

Bryan & Nate-

How are your clips coming out regarding digitizing HDV as DVC Pro HD?

Do you notice things going a bit soft?

Or maybe you can't see a difference?

Thanks.

BTW- I haven't decided on Kona LH or Decklink HD studio yet. Waiting to see what happens at NAB.

Justin, Most of the stuff I've captured with the kona looks quite good. There is a bit of softness compared to the hdv but so far I'm pleased with the card and it's results. I really like that I can digitize realtime without brakes in the long shots I do. The footage is also a lot easier to work with in FCP.
