HD 250 Varicam Flags

I noticed that one of the features of the HD 250 HD SDI output includes Varicam Flags as well as embedded time code and audio. I know that a Varicam can record in varied framerates, (hence the name). But not the 250.

What does this feature mean when applied to the HD 250??. What are the advantages and what is it for? Does it allow you to edit footage digitized from HD SDI in DVCPro HD vs. HDV??

Just curious.

HD250 does have variable frame rates. It shoots 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps. It's not in 1 fps increments like Varicam, but it's still variable. The HDSDI out is a constant 50 or 60 fps regardless of the actual frame rate you're shooting at, so Varicam flags are needed to flag the 24p, 25p and 30p modes in order to make them usable.

Thanks for clearing that up.
