GYHD110U Training DVD?
Does anyone have information on a JVC GYHD110U training DVD?
Thanks, Scott Cantrell |
Hi Scott,
I've "heard a rumour" that a ProHD training DVD might be announced during NAB! I'm not sure how it will be priced? Does anyone have an opinion on what the market would bear for a retail price on a DVD that covers, in detail, all world models HD100 ---> HD250, HZ-CA13U, BR-HD50U, DR-HD100U, KA-HD250, related accessories, and contained multiple language subtitles? |
I would pay $100 -$150 US dollars.

I'd pay something between 30-50 USD. A nice thing for JVC to do, would be offering one of those DVD's when buying a new ProHD equipment, like Adobe or Apple do with Photoshop and Final Cut Pro, for example...

Here is info on the Elite videos for the Z1U and FX1:
http://www.elitevideo.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=587 The two DVDs sell for $60 as a set, including a 35 minute section on HDV shooting in general. A friend of mine who sells tons of videos (dance) just reduced his price from the long time $60 he has charged a long time for VHS, then DVD. The price has to be low enough to get impulse buyers (when they buy the camera or shortly after when they first see the video) as well as people who like a reference for going through in place of the manual. Prices that are too high I think encourage illegal copying. Buying an original copy has to be cheap enough to make illegal copying too much bother. $50 MSRP with a discounted selling price under $40 seems like a good idea. I think video sales of single items have to be treated as an actor treats so-so residual income.... it doesn't pay the bills but provides a nice little stream. It also depends on who you want to sell to, as Tim points out. To schools? To poor students? To retirees? To hobbyists with a lot of money? To hobbyists with no money? To dealers so they can include the DVD for free with the sale of the camera? As part of some other package? and so forth. Bottom line, $30 to $50 with wholesale prices way lower (40-70% off). |
I think you would want to look at the big picture, not just what the Elite Video DVD sells for, but other similar instructionals for other camera types from various publishers. I'm really looking forward to a ProHD training DVD announcement at NAB.

These product training films have as much variety in quality and content as all other video film content. I have great confidence that Tim will make an excellant product that can span beginner to advanced interest.
Pricing is always tricky. There is a sweet spot between selling a few at a hefty price and more at a lower price. 30 - 50 is a no-brainer price for me. |
