Victor tapes

Am about to receive my 110 have inherited about a dozen unopened new Victor 60 DV tapes. (gold package, Japanese markings).

I've seen postings here of concern about what types of tape should go into this camera and wonder if anyone has experience/opnion on this brand.

I've never heard of this tape.

Its been mentioned here many times that you should only use JVC ProHD tapes as they where created especially for the JVC ProHD cameras.

If I were you I'd use the ProHD tapes only and stick to that brand.

Victor is the parent company of JVC. In Japan it's called Victor, here in the states they renamed it JVC. So if you insist on using JVC tape, go ahead and use the Victor tape stock.

Yes, Drew gave you good advice.

On page 8 of the camera manual under the heading "Videocassette to be Used", it says:

"Mini DV videocassette : M-DV63HD
M-DV63PROHD"

Remember that you are recording 1280 X 720 pixels onto a mini DV tape. That's asking a lot from the tape, so you want to use the best quality possible to reduce the chances of drop-outs. ProHD tape is meant to be superior quality compared to regular DV tape. Also, there have been countless advices in this forum about only ever using one type of tape (and not chopping and changing). So, in my opinion, it's best to start with ProHD tapes and stick with them. And definitely use up the Victors (regular DV tape) in your cheapie camcorder.

Circuit City is now carrying JVC HD tapes. $20 for 2. unsure if they are the PROhd tapes though.
