HM700 front mount screws holes different from HD100/200 series
 

I've been working with the HM700 for a week now I've had nothing but a positive experience... until now. The first really big disappointment for me happened when I removed my Cavision 15mm rods from my HD100 with the intent to attach them to the HM700. But wait... what's this? The design and placement of the screw holes is completely different from the HD series. This means that my Cavision rods (and I assume other third-party rods designed for the HD series) just won't fit.

Like the HD200 series, the HM700 ships with a "V-mount" for quick-release plates already attached. JVC have designed the new "V-Mount" as a two-piece unit with a total of 7 screws (instead of 4.) Four screws hold the square black alignment rails piece and the other three screws attach the steel "V" piece to molded "posts."
The screws aren't even the same size or pitch.

My Cavision mount has loads of other holes for mounting on different cameras but those three molded posts mean that I can't even get it flush to the camera.

So I guess anyone upgrading with the intent to use their old rails is SOOL. Now I guess its a waiting game for third-party companies to design new systems that are compatible with the new mold.

Thanks for the heads up Tim. I had intended to pick up a Cavision rods and matte box system as soon as an expected cheque shows up with the intent of swapping it back and forth between my 200's and my yet-to-be-purchased 700. Bizarre thing to change.
