hm700 vs panasonic HPX 301
 

Is anyone able to comment on a comparison between the Panasonic Hpx301/300 and the Gy hm 700 as the two cameras are to be sold in this country (Australia) for about the same price when you take into account base plates and batteries etc? I personally am considering the Panasonic since the problems I am having getting my GYHD 101 repaired is getting to a point of being a deal breaker.

Hi Ian,
I too would be very interested in this comparison. I have the JVC111 but have had no trouble with it. It has done 1000 hours but I am leaning towards the Panny. My 13x lens will bolt straight on too. I am not so worried about price as i do this for a living and the camera will pay for itself within a month.

I would like to know which will give the best low light performance as i shoot Real Estate and really want to avoid spending big dollars on a 2/3 chip camera.

Media cost is one HUGE difference.

$US800 for a 16gb P2 card vs. $US35 for a 16gb Class 6 SD card.

If Panasonic ever gives up on P2 and goes with a standard flash media format, they'll double their camera sales.

Panasonic makes great broadcast cameras. I'm hired to shoot with SDX900 or HDC27 (Varicam) all the time but I've never been hired to use a P2 version for television shooting.
The one problem with P2 is the high expense. Producers prefer a media that they can safely archive after the job is completed and that's why DVCProHD tape won't go away for a long time.

JVC has bridged the gap by taking a quality format accepted by most broadcasters (XDCAM EX @35mbps) and put it on affordable media (SDHC) that can be rolled into the budget as archivable use-once tape/film stock. This will be a key factor in my broadcast clients' transition from tape to tapeless.

BTW, I'd like to see how that Fujinon 17x4.5 lens from the HPX300 performs on the HM700.

The HPX301 CAC works only in the horizontal, so CAs will also occur
