HM-700 Audio Limiter. Needed with an External Mixer that has a Limiter?

I'm wondering...

These setup questions are specific to the HM700

I'm using a Sound Devices 302, K-Tek Boom-Pole and Rode Blimp with a Rode NTG-3 inside. I'm feeding line level - line level from the SD302 to the HM-700 and have the limiter set on the SD302.

1. Do i need to turn on the limiter on the HM700? Will I benefit any by having both on line?

2. Also is there anyone else using this mixer with their 700, what setting on the cam and 302 have you used?

3. I've line level calibrated my HM700 at -20dbu using the 302's 0dbu output signal. Has anyone needed to use other dbu settings with the 700 and 302 combo?

Thanks in advance...

There is NO need to have the limiter "on" when using the SD 302 with your configuration.

The 302 has both an input limiter and an output limiter. The output limiter is adjustable in the setup menu. The idea is to use as little limiting as possible.

If your are just using a single mono source...such as a boom mic, I would recommend that you reference one channel at -20 (which would rarely use the limiter) and the other channel at -12 to get a better recording of the lower level stuff that could come in handy at edit time.

Experiment with the output limiter setting to get what you think is the best result before hitting the brick wall.
