Sensor block on the HM700
 

Two questions about the HM700's sensor block.

1. Does the HM series suffer from the split screen effect as the HD series in any way?

2. Are the CCDs true 1280x720?

My understanding is that they are true 1280x720 chips. They use offset techniques to get to 1920x1080 when needed.
I'd be glad to get that confirmed too!

The HM700 works with splitted CCDs (two CCDs for every RGB-colour),
it can cause problems due to firmware-upgrades on early versions of HM700.
It is a heat problem, because 720x1280-CCDs get really warm, so JVC uses
splitted CCD.

Did the HD-Series really suffer from splitted CCDs.

With the offset-technique with real operating-processes direct on the CPU,
the picture-quality and sharpness is better then AVC-Intra-Cams due to Cams
like the HPX300/301 says the German Video-Magazin "Video - Digital"

In what way is the picture quality "better than the AVC Intra cams"? Better than the HPX3700? I very very very much doubt it!

Not the HPX3700, only the HPX300/301 say some German-Test-magazine, because the XDCAM EX 35 mbit makes a better colour-resolution then AVC-Intra on the HPX301.

It makes more sense now you've edited it - before it was a wild statement, comparing a £5,000 camera to a £40,000 one!
I still doubt it's true though, AVC Intra is 10 bit 422 vs 8 bit 420, and the colours, saturation and overall luxury feel of the pictures has always been one of Panny's big plus points.

Eric, do you got a link to the article? Sometimes these tests are under certain situations with certain subject matters that may or may not be applicable to the rest of the readers. I know the HPX-300 suffers bad jello vision from the Cmos, so it's out for me.. but supposedly it's OK at 720p. Then it might be a good camera. Don't know much else first hand about the AVC, except that it shouldn't be confused with the consumer AVCHD formats that truely are consumer formats.
