HM700 and Canon 5D question

Greetings. I have shot footage with my HM700 in 720p60 HQ. It edits great in FCP. I want to add some additional footage from the Canon 5D. I saw that canon released the plugin for log and transfer in FCP, but does it transcode it to only prores? if so, will it play smoothly in the XDCAM EX timeline that was created when i started editing the JVC footage? The XDCAM EX time line works great, I hope I dont have to transcode everything to prores. Thanks for any advice you all may have.

Hi Travis,

wouldn't converting the canon-media to a xdcam ex-codec, using compressor, be a valuable option?

But, hey, why not give it a try first, they just might play together nicely.

Hey Travis,

Set your Final Cut sequence to render to ProRes 422 if you're editing XDCAM EX (even if you haven't converted your HM700 footage to ProRes 422 yet). Convert your DSLR stuff to ProRes for editing. That mixes nicely in the timeline. There's no reason to convert your DSLR stuff to XDCAM EX -- that's merely a shooting format.

I'd recommend always setting your timeline to render to ProRes 422 if you're working with XDCAM EX, rather than rendering to XDCAM EX. Quality will be marginally higher, but your render times will be much faster.
